**Update: Please see response from Paul Stickney at the bottom of this post.**
I’ve put together three screenshots, which I hope (with this story from a while back) will give you an idea of the thinking inside the Conservative Party, at least as it relates to natives.
While looking at Sun News’ Facebook page, in the comments on this article, I found the following comment:
Hovering over the name, I saw the comment was by this person:
What struck me was that his network was listed as ‘Parliament of Canada’. So I searched for his name online and found this:
This person is listed elsewhere as a “Party Operative“. And as one of the Top 25 Staffers in Ottawa. These are all old links. While the person still lists their network as Parliament of Canada – his LinkedIn page shows him having finished work there a couple years ago.
Interpret that as you will. But for me, combined with what past Tories have said about natives, combined with the hate coming from Tory grass roots (see other posts on this blog), and combined with some of the dog whistle language and selective retweets by influential Conservatives on twitter – it helps paint a picture of a party deeply antagonistic to Native peoples.
More to come, surely.
Update: Response from Paul Stickney:
@rjjago My comment was stupid and I apologise to you and anyone else who took offence.

I know this guy – he is an idiot, was fired from multiple jobs in political Ottawa, and is hated by most Conservatives he knows. So hardly a representative example.

An accurate capture of Conservative Party thinking. I remember when Stephen Harper promised to repeal the a department ofvIndian Affairs. He hates First Nations..

I think most of us (Canadians) think like him.
