The Popular Palestinian Conference is being held this August 8th in Chicago.
They’ve put out a call for help in deciding the agenda for the conference’s workshops. First off, they need a new slogan [.doc]:
For decades, Palestinians have chanted “End the Occupation!” In the aftermath of Oslo, and more recently, Israel ’s unilateral disengagement from Gaza in 2005, that chant in particular may be outdated. Israel has already claimed that it has ended its occupation of Gaza and yet it maintains more domination and control than ever as evidenced by the blockade imposed in January 2007. Further, within the Green Line, Palestinians who are citizens of Israel continue to endure a discriminatory system that privileges Jewish citizens of State over non-Jews and ending the occupation of the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem will do little to improve their socio-economic and political standing in Israel . Would new slogans be more applicable and appropriate to describe the situation i.e., End Israeli Apartheid? This workshop seeks to explore this issue and those possibilities.
