Reward for whoever can get a picture of Layton with THAT flag

In Politics on June 24, 2008 by Robert Jago Tagged: , , , , ,

NDP leader Jack Layton will be taking part in this year’s St. Jean Baptiste Day parade in Montreal.  If you’ve never been to the parade, you might not know that it is dotted with hundreds of terrorist flags – pictured above.  These flags are of an anti-semitic party that advocates political violence.  You can’t go 20 metres at that parade without seeing that flag.

If you are at the parade – you MUST get a picture of Layton with that flag.  It’s almost impossible not to.  Now is the time for all good Tories (Greens?  Liberals?) to come to the aid of the party, and get that picture.  It would just be fantastic.

Some background:

The flag of the Patriots of 1837-38 has again become since a couple of years the battle standard of certain indépendantistes. The MNLQ has adopted it as its war banner; we modernized it, thereby respecting its historical character; we have added:

1 – A star, signifying the light which guides thee people of Quebec towards its destiny as a Nation.

2 – The Patriot has been added in remembrance of our heroes of 1837-38 for they gave their blood for freedom. The symbolism of the Patriot represents the people of Quebec, marching in unison towards its freedom. The tricolor green-white-red is the flag of liberation and national independence. It’s the flag hoisted by Robert Nelson and his Brother Hunters (the army of the patriots) when they proclaimed the Republic on 28 February 1838 in Noyant. 160 years after the dissolution of the revolutionary patriots movement the same tricolor has been readopted by the national liberation movement.

and the MNLQ:

The Mouvement de Libération Nationale du Québec (MLNQ) is a secessionist and reactionary group in Quebec, Canada, founded (in the wake of the 1995 referendum on Quebec sovereignty) by Front de Libération du Québec (FLQ) founder and convicted murderer Raymond Villeneuve. It presents itself as a continuation of the former FLQ terrorist organization. The MLNQ vows to “fight until the end for Quebec independence”, “intends to favour a revolutionary struggle to free the people”, “intends to favour the emergence of a people’s militia”, and overall intends to pursue independence by “any necessary and inevitable means”, including violence and personal attacks, should democracy not bring their desired outcome, according to their manifesto.

founded by the aforementioned Raymond Villeneuve:

On April 20, 1963, Raymond Villeneuve and his terrorist associates planted a bomb at a Canadian Army recruitment centre that killed 65-year-old night watchman Wilfred O’Neill. Arrested, Villeneuve was tried and convicted of murder and sentenced to twelve years in prison but was released on September 14, 1967 after serving just under four years. A year and a half after his release from prison, police began looking for him for questioning following the bombing of the Montreal Stock Exchange. Villeneuve fled to Cuba and then to Algeria and France, not returning to Quebec until 1984.

Villeneuve remained out of the spotlight until the 1990s when he resurfaced, espousing his radical and violent beliefs. In September 1996, in a newsletter entitled La Tempête(The Storm), Raymond Villeneuve denounced Montreal’s English speaking Jews for their longstanding opposition to the Quebec separatist movement and Bill 101 and sent this warning: “What will happen on the day after the victory to those communities who refused to prove conciliating towards the people of Quebec? Independence will come sooner or later and these communities must prepare now for cohabitation in harmony and agreement with the choice of Quebecers.”

Oh, as for the reward?  I don’t know, $20 for non-commercial use of your hi-res [3 megapixel +] photo until the end of 2009.  You retain all commercial rights to it.  Other good photos of Layton embarassing himself are negotiable.

UPDATE: Close! Not close enough, I need someone about thirty metres down the parade route, that would be a perfect shot.  Anyone?  Anyone?

  1. So you are openly advertsing for a set-up shot. At least you’re honest about it. And a little foolish, because should such a shot materialize, we have the publicly documented reason for it.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

  2. Um … ok, I’ll say “cry”.

It’s a set up shot if I bring the flag. The camera, not so much.

  3. CTV gust reported that Muslims are offended by the Mike Myers movie ” The Love Guru” ,check it out. Mark Steyn. There coming.

  5. Dawg,
    Who’s “we”?

  6. So, someone gets a picture of Layton with one of these flags in the background somewhere, and this somehow implicates him in something? Do you even need to be told how ridiculous this is? I’m sure it would just as easy to find a picture of Harper with something similar in the background and try to use it to smear him. This is just stupid.

  7. Do you even need to be told how ridiculous this is?

Who knows? This idiotic wingnut racist Jago couldn’t care less, anyway.

  8. This of course, is criticism from individuals who consider quoting an op-ed that links to a third party site critical of European immigration policy to be proof of white supremacism.

NDP foreign policy is by default, supportive of the Taliban’s goals and ambitions in Afghanistan. Why would Jack shy from marching alongside a flag of Hezbollah? Birds of a feather. Or shall I say, a flock.

  9. It nicely illustrates a point. It’s one thing to participate in Fete Nationale events like The PM and Leader of the Opposition are doing. That’s fair and respectful of all Quebecers.

To march in the parade of the racist – possibly white supremacist – St. Jean Baptiste Society, an association that allows the flags or racist advocates of political violence to march IN their parade – that’s something different. That’s ignorant pandering that sells short non-white, non-francophone, and non-separatist Quebecers.

The picture of him and that flag says it at a glance.

  10. Lest anyone have cause to say “he doesn’t deny being a racist” … ahem:

“This idiotic wingnut racist Jago couldn’t care less, anyway”

Are you freaking high? Read through the site. I’m a trilingual, Middle Eastern educated, American Indian, who’s virtually married to a foreign Jewish girl and whose day job involves bringing in foreign workers from Korea and Latin America. The extra curriculars on my CV include teaching English to refugees [both in Africa and in Canada], designing a database for an AIDS charity, and assisting in the construction of an aboriginal place of worship.

Monsieur – I AM holier than thou.

The racially insensitive actions of the NDP, marching in a racist parade, cozying up to Durban II, et al – make me quite angry. Sincerely angry. I worked with an NDP provincial cabinet minister. I know these people close up. I’ve been at their homes, I’ve eaten meals with them – I don’t like them.

Can you say any of the same squire? Or do you not walk the walk?

  11. a flag of Hezbollah?

Good grief, these people are stuck in a rut.

  12. I’ll uppity that reward,

  13. Can you say any of the same squire? Or do you not walk the walk?

Ten times farther than you have. Plus, I don’t vilify people with absurd propaganda.

You can rightly argue whatever problems you have with the NDP, but when you engage in immoral tactics like this, you lose all credibility and end up making your ennemies appear more virtuous.

Plus, it’s just dumb. In a world of stupidity, why should anyone add to it.

  14. “To march in the parade of the racist – possibly white supremacist – St. Jean Baptiste Society…”

See, that’s where the bullshit cuts in.

The St. Jean Baptiste day parade is not “the parade of the racist – possibly white supremacist – St. Jean Baptiste Society.” It’s a parade marking a provincial holiday. It’s attended by Quebecers of every race, colour, creed and political persuasion. Some will be waving signs. Some of the signs you won’t like.

Your request is an interesting reminder that unfortunately conservative bloggers prefer increasingly to deal in image and invective, and for that, I guess, we should be grateful.

  15. I”ll double uppity that reward!

  16. [...] A REWARD for whoever can get a picture of Layton with THAT flag; “It caused an uproar. A number of us [...]

  17. ‘I know these people close up. I’ve been at their homes, I’ve eaten meals with them – I don’t like them.’
It’s called a stomach pump man get to a hospital.
Why is it the NDP can march with traitors and French only “racist’s” celebrating a “National Holiday” by the way, of the Franco-Canadian?
    Double standard?
