Canada’s Top 25 Political Blogs – June

In Life on June 1, 2008 by Robert Jago Tagged: , ,

Here are the June rankings for Canada’s Top 25 Political Blogs. The explainer for this list is here. If I left out any blogs you think should have been included, please let me know in the comments.

Thanks to all the blogs that linked here in the last month – including most of the ones on this list, as well as LittleGreenFootballs, HotAir.com, and MichelleMalkin.com.   If you get some time, try and check out – StageLeft – where they are looking for Canada’s most trusted bloggers. Left, right, and Green (those are some of my suggestions).

FYI: the picture at the top is from the surface of Mars, it was taken early last week.

Daimnation and Colby Cosh were being ranked disproportionately high. No offence to them – I actually read both. But I’ve adjusted their rankings somewhat to reflect their actual position.

WEBMASTERS: Go ahead and steal any ‘Top 25′ graphics. Small Image Here. Large(r) Image Here. You can take he link, I use wordpress.com and googlepages hosting, so bandwidth is no skin off my nose (?).

  1. Doesn’t look like I’ll be topping Mr. Good any time soon. Maybe I’ll have to release a few hit CDs to catch up ;-)

  2. I find it interesting that according to James Bow’s sitemeter stats (http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s14jamesbow) his recent average is 293 visits/482 page views. I have a lot more than that. What gives?

  3. Blogs that should have been added

    no-libs.com
    mitchieville.blogspot.com

RT your Alexa rank is over a million, what gives, is that not everyone uses sitemeter but Alexa uses everyone. Though your google rank is there.

  4. Nice to be back on.

Suggesting Glavin’s joint as a leftwing “trusted” site is a bit much. “Trusted,” no doubt, by his friends and allies on the Right, but a leftist he is not. You may as well record my place as a rightwing site. Yup, I’m a maverick rightwinger. That’ll fly. Not.

  5. I base the stats on the previous week’s ranking. And drop any blog ranked over 1,000,000. That means that no-libs didn’t make the cut. Mitchieville didn’t load. I went to the site like 10 times and it never opened.

RedTory – sitemeter sucks. All web stats kind of suck actually. Alexa is no better and no worse than sitemeter, or webstats. That’s why I balance it with the page rank. But try google analytics, closest thing to accurate. I did check your site, it kicked Cherniak’s ass if that’s any consolation.

  6. Dr Dawg: Such unseemly jealously, esp. as your site is ranked and Mr Glavin’s is not.

  7. Thanks for the info. I don’t get too hung up on stats, but seeing as most of us do this for nothing in our “spare” time, traffic does provide some gratification. I know there are ways to optimize the number of hits received that will improve the Alexa ranking, I just haven’t been bothered to implement them. Also, I should deploy Google Analytics. I use it sites for clients, but haven’t gotten around to it on my blog.

  8. “All web stats kind of suck actually.”

Thats why I got rid of google analytics, I’d watch hits coming in and months after loading it it said I had 4.
    :)

I looked at my alexa and it claims of late I have had no traffic from the United States LOL.

RJ I never knew about the 1,000,000 rule.

  9. M.A.D.: The 1,000,000 thing is in one of the explainers or the previous months. I refine this thing nearly every time. The cut off for PR6 sites is 500,000 [that's starting this month] and for PR 5 and 4 sites, it’s 1,000,000. If a ‘6′ site is ranked between 500,000 and a million, I split the difference and chuck it in with the ‘5’s. I do it this way to get it closer and closer to reflecting something close to reality.

When I put the list together I check every site that has ever been on the list, any that have been suggested – and depending on how busy I am, I’ll either work through a short-list I have on an Excel sheet, or I’ll plow through the partisan blog rolls.

I also always remove my blog from the rankings – it seems kind of a d*ck move to make a list of the 10 best anything and put yourself on that list (accurate though it may be). If I had put myself on the list, then self-described “Pompous Ass”, Warren Kinsella, would be at 25th place.
