I know, how ‘unexpected’:

Police in Halifax are investigating a complaint about a political cartoon that some members of a local Islamic group claim is a hate crime.

The cartoon, published April 18 in the Chronicle Herald newspaper, depicts a woman in a burka holding a sign that reads, “I want millions,” and she says, “I can put it towards my husband’s next training camp.”

The cartoon by Bruce MacKinnon is a reference to Cheryfa MacAulay Jamal, a woman from Nova Scotia whose husband was arrested in 2006 in an anti-terrorism raid. Qayyum Abdul Jamal was released from jail after charges against him were stayed on April 15.

Zia Khan, director of the Centre for Islamic Development in Halifax, said the cartoon goes beyond what can be considered free speech.

“You would not put a native American Indian with feathers and say I need money in order to cull white people’s heads. You wouldn’t do that. This would be libelous,” he said.

Khan’s group called police on April 21. He said the group also filed a complaint with the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.

It seems that half the complaint is that the woman is a Muslim and is pictured wearing a burka. But look at her - pictured below - the cartoon is hardly stereotyping her - it’s actually a pretty accurate representation:

Want to know more about this woman? - read Canadian Muslim leader, Tarek Fatah, on her. He’s not known for biting his tongue - the word ‘cult’ does appear once or twice.

As for the suggestion that she would use the money to fund her husband’s terrorist activities? Well here are the words of Ms. Jamal and her associates - what do you think? Is it completely absurd to satirize her as an extremist nut?:

[I]f he ever refuses a clear opportunity to leave for jihad, then i want the choice of divorce.

May Allah crush these jews, bring them down to their kneees, humuliate them. Ya Allah make their women widows and their children orphans

Let them call you a terrorist, let them make you look like a savage, but know that THIS is the filth of the earth, the uncivilised destroyer of humanity.

Who cares? We hate Canada.

I think you quoted the wrong jihadist. The quote about wanting a divorce if her husband misses an opportunity for jihad came from Mississauga’s Nada Farooq, not Ms. Jamal.

What all these radical Islamic zealots fail to grasp is that it is the Canadian tolerance toward dissenters that enables them to carry on with their anti free speech pogroms. Once they have pushed Canadians beyond that tolerance threshold, and they are rapidly approaching that threshold, they may find that they have unleashed the latent xeophobia that always lurks below the surface of the national conscience. Didn’t they learn anything by watching the reconciliation and accomodation enquiries that just wrapped up in Quebec. This continued paranoia that sees a conspiracy in every word or glance is self-defeating. They have already brought these dreadful HRCs (Hateful Repressive Commissariats) in disrepute by their frivolous claims against people who simply have adhered to what is considered, by most Canadians, as reasonable dissent and they may find that they are dragging the whole muslim community down with them.

These insidious so called tolerance enquiries, are nothing but witch hunting Inquisitions.
That have no reason being in a Democracy with a REAL rule of law. Seems to me that certain Islamist groups think they can fight the war here in our courts, undermining our Individual freedoms to impose Sharia law if not erode this polities foundations. For the Muslims trying to live here peaceably ,the death cultists of head chopping bombing human bomb infamy . Have them terrified to speak out least their called heretics & allowed to be killed. Under sharia if a raped girl can be honor killed what chance us Kaffirs or those Muslims who call for Peace? Saudi Arabia pays for these radical schools with our gas money.

This whole circus of woes is conducted by ideologues with bureaucratic sanction at the trough with no legal supervision.
Since Canadians are not generally hate mongers. Barbra Hall admitted as much than disavowed this saying in Ontario there should be more & she can’t wait to be able to charge people without a real complaint.

    Chilly now folks?

This is what I wrote to an MP Rob Nicholson.
In fact to all supporting the LIBERAL back benchers bill to oppose these star chambers. I almost got nauseous writing to thank said Liberal being a small L Libertarian myself. Right is right though no matter ones politics.. After all they where used against the Nazis & as the gays are finding out them too. So far 3 Conservative MP’s have joined. This is a trans political issue. It’s a basic individual right under condemnation. All our others flow from it.

    To the
    Honerable MP Rob Nicholson.

Thank you sir for your support of free individual expression except for the obvious social exceptions like libel. I made a list of the abominations this witch hunters courts is privy to with the full might of the State behind them. It chills me more than January in Alberta. It takes some courage sir, to go against a beast this size without accumulating some wounds . Shows grit if not a little integrity on your part.
    A 100% conviction rate.
    No warrants needed.
    Truth is no defense.
    Pre-crimes are included.
    Your guilty till guilty
You don’t have to face your accuser or him /her you.
The complainants pays nothing even if lying.
Anyone can complain even though they have no connection with any ethnic group.
As Barbra Hall proved you can condemn a Magazine or individual without jurisdiction while trials are being held against those accused.
The process has become the punishment.
Freedom of religion has been trampled both in Ontario against a charity & a pastors speaking rights in Alberta.
Not only double jeopardy but triple.
The insane length of these Inquisitions for tolerance. Eating people lifespan as if its worthless.
Some of the decisions are so insane it passes human reason. B.C,s especially.
With all due respect sir this is what I loathed my whole life about the Soviet Union. Is this Canada anymore? I am quite serious. I fear for our Nation with a rats nest like this abuse. That it will eat our liberties away as it waters down the Charter of rights with this parallel system. For once the right to speak out is lost any monster with charisma would devour such a sea of ignorance. How else could we come to a rational social census without diverse ideas. Even the ones we hate? Ponder as well how if the bad is never discussed how will we know what’s good. Do we just rely on the Barbra halls of Canada to tells us weekly what is acceptable & what’s not?
Sorry for the rant. Got carried away. As you can see I am very worried. If this Country becomes static, cut off, it will wither. I morn that most of all.

Sorry a correction. The letter was not to MP Rob Nicholson It was sent to Lee Richardson MP for Calgary center. Rob Nicholson supports the hate laws & the Star chambers as Justice Minister. He is an ememmy of individual freedom not a supporter. No free speecher him. Frankly This will injure them no little in the West. The conservative party as a whole. This clown has put paid to them without even knowing it. They just killed there western base where this issue is huge. I wonder what Harpers damage control will be?

I am amazed that such government imposed censorship can happen in a supposedly democratic country with guarantees of freedom of expression in peacetime. We all need to ask ourselves just how we reached this point where Moslems can whine and complain about a supposed offense and get any government to support their complaint.

Ken, censorship? Censorship? Who is being censored Ken? Ms. Jamal never said those words. Not only is this censorship it is outward lying. Lying. I am all for quoting someone’s words if they say it and so be it, but to make up lies and print them as the truth…. isn’t that unCanadian and just plain wrong? Has freedom of speach becoem freedom to lie about someone and print it publicly. Is this the freedom you all are fighting for. Is this Canadian? I dare say it is slinking and slipping down the snakehole where liers go.
