Ad agenices gone wild

UPDATE:

This was the press release Hanes released last week:

According to a press release from Hanes dated April 15, 2008, “[T]hese ads were not developed at the request of Hanesbrands,” and that “the ads were developed by advertising agency McCann Erickson for their own purposes and did not receive authorized approval from Hanesbrands.” Hanes went on to say, “We regret this episode and are taking steps to assure that such an event never occurs again. We apologize to all those offended by the ads. We, too, were offended.”

So the company to hold accountable is Mccann Erikson. No press release from them saying sorry.

———-

What were they thinking? These are the new ads from Hanes underwear, possibly the stupidest ads of all time ever:

The ads come from their Indian branch office – part of their “Lipstick” campaign. The slogan for the ads is ‘Tagless Comfort’. The series of offensive ads were created by a company called Mccann Erickson.

Where do you even start with this? Leaving the first two asside – those are really offensive, but have been touched on here for the ‘N*gger’ ad, and here for the ‘F*ggot’ ad.

Let`s just ask some questions about the third.

First, insulting Islam with pigs and toilets? Are they suicidal – or do they hope that the angry mobs will buy more Hanes in order to burn them? And using the 9-11 imagery to sell underpants – how did they think that wasn’t going to find it’s way back to America? Notice the people jumping from the stylized WTC in the Paki ad – does that make you want to buy Hanes underpants or kick the owner of Hanes in his?

Someone`s got to shake some sense into this company – not just Hanes, but the ad agency. At the very least, it should be pulled from shelves, and really a lot of people ought to be losing their jobs for this stupidity.
