Let’s start off with something in the news. Word out last week from the Vatican that Islam is the world’s largest faith. So with that on our minds – these are 10 things that I’ve heard about Islam. If they’re wrong – then tell me in the comments.
- You can convert to Islam by saying the following phrase 3 times in the presence of a Muslim : “Ashadu al la ilaha illa illahu wa ashadu anna muhammadan rasul allah“
- Muslims can’t drink any alcohol. Which is weird because I lived in Cairo, and I drank Egyptian ‘Sakkara’ Beer almost every day.
- Adult circumcision.
- You can divorce a woman by saying ‘talaq, talaq, talaq’
- Imams or mullahs tell you that you get 72 virgins if you die as a martyr.
- Mullahs are hated in Iran.
- Muslims revere Jesus as the second most important person ever to live, but while they worship him as a man, they do not worship his teachings of peace, tolerance, and forgiveness.
- Boy love – i.e. sex with boys – is encouraged in both the Hadith and in the Shi-ite tradition.
- Ismailis respect women and allow them to become Imams.
- While most Muslims would never consider commiting violence themselves, they are ready to excuse or explain or try to understand the violence committed by other Muslims against Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists.
I once new this Saudi guy – a Shia – who told me some of what he thought he knew about Christianity. He told me that he was taught that once a year Christians get together and get naked on the alter and have an orgy! That’s unfortunately not true. But I am prepared to maybe have a weird gap like that in my knowledge – though keep in mind that I have lived in a Muslim country, and am a naturally inquisitive person, so I’m pretty sure what I’m saying above is correct.

Most of the things on that list are true of certain Islamic sects, but not all of them.
It’s kind of like taking a list of points descriptive of Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans and Unitarians and saying it applies to all Christians. Simply not so.
They are not meant to drink alcohol, but when I was in Cairo all the younger ones I met drank, (and smoked hash), I don’t think the virgin thing is true, or it does not say anything in the Quran about it.
Well, it doesn’t say anything about the seven social sins in the bible, either. Once again, hardly exclusive to Islam.
I heard that 72 represents actually a march larger or infinite number, kind of like 1000 or 1 million in the west.
Yep that’s all true as fr as I know.

No, once is enough. Even once is not really required; this is just a formality and is not compulsory. Belief in the heart is sufficient.

Not exactly true. The word virgin is not in the Quran at all. The words are “beautiful companions” but westerners love to use ‘virgin’ instead.

Oh I forgot, the Talmud mentions 60 something virgins in heaven.

we dont worship jesus(we call him ISA)
we worship only god, but believe jesus was a prophet sent by god.
and of course we love his gd teachings!
we had so many miracles. even his birth was a miracle. (basically muslims believe that all prophets were sent by Allah, but it wasnt called islam at the time. the other religions kinda stryed from the path but some teachings some places r still right. like jesus havin miracles we no that 2. islam is the full, complete renowned religion . ppl kinda changed what the prophets said into their own liking. the quran wont be changed it is the words from GOD. )
oh and thats gr8 news about saying islams the largest faith, i thought it was christianity.
everythings realy clear in islam , its lyk whateva argument there is a gd muslim will probably argue back 10000000 times better lol
