For the record the BC Liberals are not anything like the Dion Liberals. Much like the old Quebec Liberals - they’re a coalition of Federal Liberals and Federal Tories. Basically we all agree that capitalism and free markets are better than the NDP.
Anyhow, still swamped doing work for their new youth site. Very web [...]

On the way to work today
Not blogging much here right now. Busy finishing off the new site for the BC Young Liberals - lot of techie issues with that.
This was the view on my way to work today - clouds and storms finally cleared - snowy mountains.

The Canadian Threat
From the Onion:
The dollar’s lost some steam today - down to $1.01. Maybe it’s just profit-taking though and it’ll bounce back next week…

Bill Roggio has a story on his blog today detailing the advance of the Taliban throughout Pakistan`s tribal areas:
The Taliban continue to take territory in the Northwest Frontier Province. After fighting the Pakistani military to a standstill in North Waziristan and forcibly taking over much of Swat, the Taliban have marched eastward into the settled [...]

I stumbled across a story in the Science daily that I’ll have to keep around for frequent reference. Basically what it says that you can influence people by repeating the same message to them over and over again. A single person saying, for example “Stephen Harper is fantastic” to you day after day, will [...]

That’s the Burj in Dubai as it stood Sunday afternoon. It’s so bloody cool. Yes it’s ugly, but in a Robocop kind of way, so in other words it’s a good thing.
It kind of surprises me that with this economy, we still don’t go to that extreme. In Vancouver, all the big projects are government [...]

Remembrance Day Photos
It rained off and on today. Cathy and I went down to Vancouver’s Victory Square for Remembrance Day. Cathy’s American, so this was her first time there.
It’s changed a bit this year, but still the basics are the same. The two biggest changes were the feeling of it, and the crowd. [...]

As a blogger I should really make more of an effort to get offended. It’s hard because I’m a surprisingly mellow person, but this commentary in the Georgia Straight actually offended me - a lot:
Support the troops. No Canadian would argue with that, except maybe the members of Vancouver’s city council.
The trick is to [...]

As I write this the Canadian Dollar is trading at about $1.10 US. The highest in my lifetime. This high number means that our company has lost Canadian $9,750 (US$10,725) because some of our contracts were priced in greenbacks.
But it’s not just Canada that’s rising against the US Dollar - everyone [...]

Must control self
God help me, I’ve got a phone interview with a guy in Korea in 5 minutes. His name is Suk Bum Yoo - but said Korean style, it’s Yoo Suk Bum.
Must stop laughing. Must get it out of my system:
‘ring ring’
Seoul: “Hello?”
Vancouver: “Yes hello, Yoo Suk Bum please?”
Oh the perils of international business.

Is Mark Warner going turncoat?
There’s a rumor on National News Watch that ousted Tory candidate Mark Warner is going to jump to the Liberals and run in Toronto-Danforth. He’s come to this conclusion after Dion invited Warner to run for the Liberals and after Toronto-Danforth candidate Deborah Coyne announced on her website that she’s resigning.
It seems reasonable. But to [...]

If the Americans had done this there would be an uproar.
A couple months back the European Union threatened Canada with undisclosed ’sanctions’ unless we opened our borders to at least one Eastern European EU member by the year’s end:
The European Commission is threatening sanctions unless Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government meets a deadline to let [...]
