A dime a dozen political blog

But my mom says I’m handsome…

Take a look at Cherniak’s blog – at the top right is his proud acheivement: ‘nominated for best political blog’.

Well done … so I say, hey let’s see who else is nominated, maybe I can find another interesting political blog to read.

Just 2 votes? hmmm, and then you see who nominated him – ‘jcherniak’ [click the image below to see full-sized]. Holy living christ, it’s just too funny. Do Liberals have no shame?

NB: I kind of respect Cherniak. Sure he’ll say absurd stuff – and do lame stuff like the above – but he has open comments and he’s tenacious in the defence of his point of view. So fair play to him and all that.

  1. Even funnier thing is, he nominated himself for “Most Obnoxious Blogger”, too.

Sorry, but you are wrong. He DOESN’T have open comments-at least not for me. Guess he doesn’t like the fact I criticize him.

    Horny toad

    Anon: I stand corrected.

Amusing. @anon/webmaster, for me he’s always been fair, but I’ve not commented heavily. I did vote for Joe Clark over Pierre Trudeau in his “best PM’s of Canada” and explained why. To my astonishment, he seemed to then adopt my own reasoning (that Clark was less awful than Trudeau from my perspective) for explaining his own vote against Mulroney. That was fair, and intellectually consistent.

So, I’ll raise my quiet voice in noting Cherniak’s been fair to me… but I comment on his blog no more than once or twice a year.

His self-nomination is beyond funny, but he redeems himself a bit if a) he did it so blatantly, b) he nominated himself as ‘most obnoxious’.

Who I’d actually nominate for best Canadian blogger? I dunno. Maybe Kate @SDA, maybe Mark Steyn @ Macleans (or wherever he posts once Black’s trial is over). Andrew Coyne is too inconsistent in posting, Paul Wells is too much big media and doesn’t post enough. (Both are very good though, but they don’t fit as best bloggers). Ditto David Warren, ditto John Robson.

Warren Kinsella, though he’s biased and annoying (he will no doubt find both of those adjectives to be compliments) qualifies, barely. Cherniak deserves some respect too, sure. Steve Janke. Steve Taylor. Definitely.

I’d say Steyn though. If it’s all about the writing. Which it should be.

Thanks for hosting my opinionated comment.

    Best,
    -Holmwood
